Have you ever watched a cat or dog enjoy a nice, long stretch? Humans can take a lot of cues from our pets, including the need to stretch our muscles out for the good of our entire body. But we have one thing that Fido and Fluffy don’t have: Stretch Zone, a place to make the most of it.
The Stretch Zone Method was founded by exercise physiologist Jordan Gold, who realized that his own grandfather’s mobility could be vastly improved with gentle stretches to aid circulation and muscle tone. Before long, his grandfather, affectionately known as Pop-Pop, had moved from using a wheelchair to a walker, a cane and finally dancing freely at his niece’s wedding. With that inspiration, Gold created the nation’s most-celebrated assisted stretching brand.
Stretch Zone is best described as “personal training for stretching” and is customized for each client’s needs. Proponents range from athletes to busy adults to patients getting out of rehab after joint replacement or surgery. The unique approach works to relax the body’s “stretch reflex.” Of course, stretching also helps alleviate other general-wellness issues, including range of motion, sleep patterns, general relaxation, stiffness or soreness and stress.
Mount Pleasant currently has two Stretch Zone studios. Doug Glover, founding partner, believes strongly in the methodology of stretching. Glover started as a Stretch Zone client in South Florida after a terrible back injury left him facing surgery. After experiencing the benefits firsthand, he partnered to open the first of many Stretch Zone studios.
“Last year, we were fortunate to open 20 studios across the country,” said Glover. “I was on the road for 36 weeks, getting studios open in 14 different states, and I can’t begin to tell you how much joy it brought me to know the impact Stretch Zone has made in so many lives.”
